چکیده
Abstract This paper shows how social structure shapes many behaviors of low-income Black peoples’ currently labeled “culture.” It refutes both culture poverty arguments based in welfare dependency and deindustrialization explanations the post-1960 increase single-parent families. Historically, distinct discrimination experiences urban versus rural enclaves structured child socializations family formations, North South. The 1960-1980 doubling (21% 41%) children one-parent families emerged from urbanization converging toward Blacks’ historically rate. Post-1970 liberalization and/or were exacerbating factors, not causes. Using a head’s urban/rural residence at age sixteen proxy socialization location, logistic regressions on 1960s data confirm hypothesis.

The Origins of African-american Family Structure*
I use a new data source, the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series, to trace race differences in family structure between 1880 and 1980. Analysis confirms recent findings that the high incidence among African-Americans of single parenthood and children residing without their parents is not a recent phenomenon. From 1880 through 1960, black children were two to three times more likely to reside...

متن کاملConceptualisation of Family Structure in Nigeria
Given that social institutions are the basis of any society, they must ideally operate in unison with functional necessities for any society to function and then flourish. The plethora of issues confronting Nigeria as a country may be traced back to weak, incompetent, and dysfunctional social institutions that have failed to alter the status quo. According to Talcott Parsons, society is analogo...
متن کاملOrigins of the BOLD post-stimulus undershoot
The interpretation of the blood-oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) post-stimulus undershoot has been a topic of considerable interest, as the mechanisms behind this prominent BOLD transient may provide valuable clues on the neurovascular response process and energy supply routes of the brain. Biomechanical theories explain the origin of the BOLD undershoot through the passive ballooning of post...
متن کاملPhylogenetic Origins of Antibody Structure
The anuran amphibian, Rana catesbiana, has been found to possess at least two kinds of immunoglobulins corresponding to gammaG- and gammaM-classes. These classes have the same chain structures as those of their counterparts in higher animal species. Light chains of both immunoglobulins had molecular weights of 20,000. Heavy chains of the gammaM-class had molecular weights of 72,100; those of th...
